Question

How much of a final trimester grade or yearly grade should be from summative assignments and what percentage should come from formative? What is best practice for formative vs. summative? What does the current research state? Can you lead me to some of these articles/books? Thanks in advance.

says:

I believe that all of the grade should come from summative assessment but if you are
transitioning from an "everything counts" situation 80% summative, 20% formative is a
good "start" position.
Research is very clear that when formative assessment is used to support learning
subsequent student performance improves dramatically. The classic article is Black and
Wiliam "Inside the Black Box" in the October 1998 Kappan magazine. Look for anything by
Dylan Wiliam. A very important recent paper was written by Hattie and Timperley.
